The Somali cat is a charming and energetic cat breed, deeply loved by cat enthusiasts worldwide. It originated in Africa and is a long - haired domestic cat breed developed from the mutation and selection of Abyssinian cats. Due to its close relationship with the Abyssinian cat and the fact that the origin of the Abyssinian cat is close to Somalia, it got its name.

The Somali cat is of medium size with well - developed muscles, reaching a body length of up to 66 centimeters and weighing between 3.5 and 5.5 kilograms. Their fur is of medium length, soft and delicate to the touch, with 3 - 12 colored stripes on each hair, shining brightly in the sun. The coat colors are mainly divided into four types: deep red, red, blue, and fawn. The eyes are almond - shaped, mostly green or golden, with a deep and intelligent look.

Somali cats are naturally playful, curious, and full of energy. They love to explore the surrounding environment, are good at climbing and jumping, and will try their best to involve family members in their activities. Somali cats get along well with children and other pets, making them excellent family companions. However, they have a high demand for exercise and need enough space to release their energy.

 

In terms of health, Somali cats are generally robust, but they may be prone to genetic diseases such as anemia caused by pyruvate kinase deficiency and progressive retinal atrophy.
