Former Rockstar Developer Reveals "GTA 6" Development Start Date

In a recent revelation, former Rockstar Games environment artist David O'Reilly has provided new insights into the development timeline of the highly - anticipated "Grand Theft Auto 6". His statements have shed light on when the development of this blockbuster game actually began.

O'Reilly disclosed during an appearance on a show that "GTA 6" entered the development phase in 2018. He specifically pointed out that the development commenced "right after we wrapped up on 'Red Dead Redemption 2'". O'Reilly elaborated, "I worked on 'GTA 6' from 2018 to 2023. I started working on it as soon as we finished 'Red Dead Redemption 2'. Looking back at all this is truly fascinating."

 

This announcement implies that "GTA 6" has been in development for around seven years as of now. If the game launches as scheduled in May 2026, its total development time will reach eight years.
